A Great Leader: Nelson Mandela

A GREAT LEADER: NELSON MANDELA

Introduction:

Today, leadership is the most discussed topic. There are many people who consider themselves as good and perfect leaders. Many organizations are looking forward for good people who fulfill the criteria of leadership. There are many questions arise on the topic of leader and leadership. First is what is leader and what is leadership? How people identify that the people who pretend as a good leader is a good one or not? Now days leadership is associated with power. Those people who dominate others and have a lot of money, live in big houses, live a royal lifestyle are considered as good leaders. As they have money and they consider themselves dominant so they become leaders. In our society people need motivation, guidance and some ideas to accomplish their goals. People need someone who stand up and taught them to how to accomplish their goals so that they get the maximum of what they want. Today technology grows a lot but people still are narrow minded. They have very little qualities to judge someone. Upper class people mostly confront the society and lower and middle class starts follow them blindly. If I talk about leadership is the action of leading a group of people or an organization and leader is someone who has ability to lead a group of people. In leadership terms, there is one more question which is to be considered that are those people willingly follow the person who act as leader. This is very important that people follow the leader by their heart or through some threat or something else. A good leader is competent and his talks influence others and sometimes because of their ideas many people got their lives changed. A good leader spread positive thoughts in people minds and fight against all those negative things which are dangerously spreading in the society.

Early Life:

In our society, we have many of the good leaders who have struggled a lot for our freedom and prosperity. The list is very large but in today’s speech I only talk about the great Nelson Mandela. There are very few people who are considered as born leaders and with no doubt Nelson Mandela was one of them. He was a south African political leader and he had done a lot for the people of south Africa. He has spent most part of his life in fighting against the freedom for the people of south Africa. Who knows that a child born in 1918 would become a great leader one day. When he was born his name was Mandela and on his first day to school his teacher gave him name Nelson so from there his name become Nelson Mandela. When he was twelve his father died. After that he lived with the regent and they sent him to school. He was the first member of his family who joined school. From the start of his brought up he was a political person. When he got admission in university he started a campaign there and was expelled. After that he started participating in different campaigns. He was also considered as “Father of the Nation” in south Africa.

Marriage:

Mandela was married three times. First married in 1944 and was married secondly in 1958 after the divorce. And the third marriage was held in 1998 after the divorce form second one. He has six children. He was always non-emotional with his children. He was a demanding person and always want something new and innovative. Many times, Mandela got hospitalized because of the lungs infection but got treated successfully. He led a very strong life, a life full of liveliness.
Mandela joined the African national congress in 1942 and spent the 27 years of life in prison. He always worked peacefully against all the racist movements but most of the people are against him and they started campaign against Mandela and sent him to jail. He was a symbol of global peacemaking. He threw the legacy to end racism, poverty and inequality. He always wanted to free south Africa without violence. He is a non-violence person. After great struggle, he won the general elections in south Africa and become the president of south Africa from 1994 to 1999. When he was elected as a president the government was under the control of African National Congress. So, two gentlemen were appointed as his right hand and left hand. As African National Congress members have very little knowledge about politics so for every decision they first negotiate with congress members and Mandela and then finalize the decision.

Great Qualities of Nelson Mandela:

As nelson Mandela was a great leader of his time and he has a lot of qualities so some of them are listed below:

  • He has learned a great lesson of forgiveness to the whole world.
  • He has a very strong vision and because of that he was much focused on his goals.

These are some of the qualities of nelson Mandela. If we see these qualities in a person than in that way we consider him/her as our leader. Leadership is not a simple thing and not everyone can become leader. There are different scenarios and different cases sometimes good and sometimes worst and even sometimes more worst. So, the leader is someone who can tackle all the situations in a very good way. who aspire his people and spread motivation and love? In today’s world, these types of people are less. All the people are living their own lives and everyone want best for their own selves not for the mankind. So, in this world of selfishness there is a need to again unite and do something for those who need our help and spread love to those who are desperate of their lives.
The nelson Mandela life did not end with death. But before his death he was also awarded with different prizes. As he struggled a lot in his whole life so in response to all those pain through which he has suffered in 1993 was awarded with a Nobel prize. There are some golden words which he said after receiving the prize that:
“we millions of people are stand up against the social operation of violence, oppression, racism and at last we got prosperity in the entire community.”
