My Fears
My Fears
Every
person has goals for his/her life. It is
an important aspect of motivating ourselves, keeping focused, and making us who
we are and will become. Everyone
in this world, from a six-year-old child to an eighty-year-old man, has something
to fear. A child might fear being in the
ocean or the dark; an old man, on the other hand, might fear losing mental
capabilities or even life. Although
fears might also change throughout a lifetime, most people do remain scared of
something. I am no different. I used to fear nuclear war, public speaking,
and even my own family members, but I have overcome these fears. There are, however, things I still do
fear.
Whether you are a six year old, an eighty year old,
or a twenty-three year old (like myself) you are probably afraid of something. Who knows if my ongoing fears of loosing someone close, darkness, or snakes will ever go away. All these fears are probably my
worst because they are paralyzing and actually dangerous. Snakes, again, only are a problem when I’m
out in the wilderness. Even then,
though, the encounters with snakes are so rare that I don’t usually worry in
the woods. Finally, my fear of loosing someone special will probably never go away. I might change physically or mentally, but having those people around
for support will help. I have gotten
over many fears in the past, and there is a small chance I will get over my
current fears in the future. Perhaps,
overcoming our fears marks our growth and maturity as human beings. I can only
say one thing for sure: I am still growing and maturing!
